Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge of the materials used in engineering, the way that materials behave in load carrying applications and the factors that affect the performance of materials

Synopsis Materials used in engineering; price and availability, elastic behaviour. Yield strength, tensile strength, hardness and ductility. Fast fracture, toughness and fatigue.

Assessment Examinations: 65%
