Introduction to engineering structures

* Prerequisite: Admission to the Bachelor of Engineering course

Objectives The student is expected to develop functionality with analyses of various simple structural systems.

Synopsis Resolution of forces, conditions for static equilibrium and statical determinancy. Free body diagrams. Calculation of forces in trusses, frames and machines. Shear force and bending moments in beams. Properties of areas - centroid, second moment of area, Mohr's circle.

Assessment Examinations: 60%
* Assignments: 40%
