Objectives The student is expected to acquire skills in using spreadsheets to analyse engineering applications, and to develop programming skills further with some numerical applications to mechanical engineering.

Synopsis Spreadsheet applications, macros. Curve fitting. Curve plotting using spreadsheets, monitor screen and XY plotters. Solution of simultaneous linear equations by Gaussian elimination and Choleski decomposition, storage of large spase matrices. Numerical integration techniques. Solution of mechanical engineering problems by computer.

Assessment Class tests [written and practical]: 50%
* Laboratory work and projects: 50%
