* Prerequisites: ELE2261
Objectives The student is expected to acquire an understanding of the biasing and the AC frequency response characteristics of BJT and FET transistor amplifiers.
Synopsis Amplifier fundamentals: concept of small-signal and large-signal amplifiers. Frequency response of wideband amplifiers, gain, bandwidth, Bode plots, -3 dB breakpoints. Small-signal amplifiers: amplifier fundamentals notation, amplifier configurations. Biasing, thermal stability, stabilisation of bias point. Small-signal BJT and FET equivalent circuits: two-port parameters, hybrid-pi model, parameter variations. Frequency response.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 80%
* Practical
work and laboratory work: 20%
