Objectives The student is expected to increase his/her knowledge and understanding of insulation tests and condition monitoring techniques for high voltage equipment.

Synopsis Insulation condition monitoring of plant. Insulation structure and design criteria of power transformer, generator, motor, cable and circuit breaker. Electrostatic fields and field stress control. Applied insulation materials. Electrical breakdown in gas, solid and liquid. AC, DC and impulse voltage tests. Non-destructive insulation test techniques.

Assessment Two-hour examination: 60%
* Assignments: 20%
* Laboratory work: 20%
