Objectives The student is expected to gain a detailed knowledge of clinical engineering practice and an understanding of issues associated with the acquisition and use of medical technology in a major hospital.

Synopsis Clinical engineering: the selection, implementation and support during use of complex systems of medical technology found in most major hospitals. Examination of the role of clinical engineers in relation to the management of medical technology. Introduction to Australian and international standards that relate to medical equipment and devices, the equipment acquisition process, acceptance testing and the changing role of clinical engineers.

Assessment Examination: 50%
* Practical work: 50%
