Objectives The student is expected to understand procedures in water resources development, water treatment processes and water reticulation, wastewater processes and water quality standards. On completion of the subject, the student is expected to competently carry out a simple water supply investigation, compute preliminary sizes of water treatment facilities and carry out basic calculations and conceptual layout of a wastewater treatment and disposal system.

Synopsis Water and waste water engineering; sources of water, consumption patterns and water quality standards. Water treatment- clarification, sedimentation, coagulation, filtration and sterilisation, reticulation, analysis of distribution systems. Design of sewers: flow formulae, system layout. Waste water purification, quality standards, treatment processes, disposal and sterilisation. Sewerage discharge criteria. Urban drainage: quality and treatment.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 100%
