Objectives The development of competence in using commercial packages with graphical user interfaces for engineering calculations and report preparation, and an understanding of the capabilities and limitations of these commercial packages.

Synopsis The graphical user interfaces (eg Windows), inroduction to a word processor package (eg Word), spreadsheets, data storage and entry, algebraic and logic functions, graphical presentations, data base operations, macros and automatic operation. Applications to civil, construction and infrastructure engineering will be illustrated.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60%
