Objectives The student is expected to acquire an appreciation of contemporary issues in transport planning along with knowledge and understanding of the analytic techniques used to support the transport planning process.

Synopsis Transport systems planning process and the role of transport modelling. Characteristics of modes (supply) and travel demand, matching demand and supply. Network modelling fundamentals, trip generation, trip distribution, mode choice and traffic assignment. Transport survey process, sample design, questionnaire design. Travel demand management techniques. Sustainable travel.

Assessment Examinations: 60%
* Practical work, assignments and reports: 40%
