Interfacial phenomena

3 points
* 24 lectures
* Clayton

Objectives The student is expected to gain an understanding of the role of interfaces in chemical and chemical engineering processes.

Synopsis Topics to be covered will include solid and liquid suspensions in gases, emulsions, colloids, behaviour of solid surfaces in contact with electrolyte solutions; electrode surfaces, surface potential and nucleation and crystal growth. The importance of surfaces in kinetics, in catalysis and in mass transfer operations will be highlighted.

Assessment Examination: 80%
* Assignments: 20%
