Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of paper as an engineering material and as a sustainable recyclable product; of the use of chemical engineering principles in pulping and bleaching and of the unit operations of paper making.

Synopsis Application of chemical engineering principles in papermaking with topics selected from mechanical, semi-chemical and chemical pulping; bleaching; washing; screening; chemical recovery and chemical production; stock preparation; wet end chemistry; forming; drainage; pressing; drying and coating; environmental and strategic issues.

Assessment Examination: 100%
