Issues in educational multimedia

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to evaluate a range of multimedia products in an education or training context; be familiar with current multimedia standards and technologies and their applications in education; be able to create an educational package which uses elements of multimedia; have critically examined the use of multimedia packages within a learning environment.

Synopsis Students will gain experience with a range of applications of multimedia in education. A selection of multimedia authoring systems will be presented, and students will be expected to develop skill with at least one of these during the semester. These aspects of the subject will be accomplished within the context of supporting traditional and flexible delivery of courseware. Issues in the evaluation of multimedia packages will be addressed. Opportunities will be provided for practical and research work to be conducted from work or home locations.

Assessment Written software design brief: 40%
* Production of a multimedia application: 30%
* Paper (2000 words): 30%
