Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed knowledge and understanding of the impact of principles and policies on the way in which support is provided to individuals with special needs in schools and other settings. Students should also have developed knowledge of the processes involved in meaningful change in collaborative consultation in this field.

Synopsis This subject focuses on the range of human service systems that support individuals with special needs. Topics covered will include the origins and scope of `special education' principles and policies for integration and inclusion, community based and educational support services for children, adolescents and adults, including transition to and from school, professionals as a change agent and the processes of collaborative consultation. Students will be required to read widely and to participate in regular lecture-discussions and practical sessions.
