Sport and outdoor recreation 2

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have acquired an understanding of coaching principles for sport and resource recreation; understand and be able to identify concepts of resource management; and have developed competencies and understanding of current practices in the areas of aquatics, the fundamental coaching skills in sport and an overview of resource recreation pursuits.

Synopsis This subject will focus on the study of the philosophy, principles and practices related to the delivery of sport and resource recreation in a broad range of settings. Principles of coaching will be examined, in the context of the teaching and coaching role. Concepts of resource recreation management and current issues will be examined. Studies will be undertaken in the area of swimming and water safety, fundamental skills in winter major sport and an introduction to winter outdoor pursuits which provide a basis for integrating theory and practice. Students will be required to develop competencies in swimming and water safety leading to the potential award of the Austswim Certificate, undertake skill development in the area of major games and attend extended workshop programs in resource recreation pursuits at regional venues.

Assessment Assignment work and practical performance assessment: 40%
* Examination (2 hours): 60%
