Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have improved their understandings of harmony; improved their understanding of keyboard notation, and their sightreading at the keyboard; mastered a repertoire of keyboard pieces of appropriate standard, and committed some of them to memory; developed an effective practice routine and an ability to analyse performance problems and devise appropriate strategies to overcome them; improved their aural skills including recognition of melody and harmony, and pitch matching; developed the ability to improvise simple accompaniments.
Synopsis This subject has been designed to further the keyboard and musicianship skills developed in EDP1305 or EDP1306. Students will expand their repertoire of pieces for performance while refining technical skills, and explore various ways of improvising simple accompaniments. Work at the keyboard will be supported by activities and computer exercises designed to reinforce skills in rhythm, melody, harmony and sightreading. Emphasis will be placed on the development of practice strategies appropriate to the individual.
