Graphical computer programming

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should possess a general knowledge of the concepts of structured, modular programming; have developed practical experience in algorithm design, problem solving and the program development life cycle; have developed practical experience and user skills in relation to visual programming within the graphical user interface environment.

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide students with a practical and theoretical introduction to computer programming in the graphical user interface environment. Students will be taught the fundamentals of visual programming, modular design, algorithm development and the program development lifecycle. The structured programming concepts of sequence, iteration and choice; and the specific elements and syntax of the chosen language will be fully developed. A heavy emphasis will be placed on the practical aspects of programming.

Assessment A folio of programming tasks (approx 2000 words equivalent): 20%
* Assignment (approx 3000 words equivalent): 30%
* Examination (2 hours): 50%
