Health education and promotion

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be aware of the different models of health education; have an understanding of the influence of the Ottawa Charter on ideas about health promotion; be able to analyse the rationales used in various health promotion projects; develop skills in the evaluation of health education and promotion; be able to describe Federal, State and local government initiatives in the promotion of health.

Synopsis This subject examines health promotion projects such as the Healthy Families Project, the Drug Offensive and health promoting schools. It also evaluates health education and promotion and the role of government in health promotion through policy and legislation.

Assessment Literature review (1500 words): 20%
* Evaluation of a health education/promotion program (2000 words): 30%
* Designing a health education program for a specific group of learners (2000 words): 50%
