Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to identify the major management theories and key issues relative to human service organisations and apply these theories to real situations that occur in children's services. Students should use their personal work environment knowledge/experience to demonstrate the links between the theory and the development of effective management practice.
Synopsis Theoretical perspectives of human service organisations will be examined. Students will examine a range of topics which are important to children's services management. These include organisational models, policy development, goalsetting, budgeting, staff recruitment, industrial relations, regulations, environmental issues, the marketing of services and conflict resolution and staff/service evaluation.
Assessment Essay and presentation (2000 words): 50%
