Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to undertake teaching responsibilities and practise basic teaching skills in junior-level grades for daily periods ranging from two hours to a half-day in duration; discuss and compare their off-campus experiences with the experiences of other students, reflecting on the teaching and class management styles they have encountered, exploring why teachers utilise different approaches and strategies; demonstrate an understanding of simple disciplinary strategies conducive to maintaining classroom discipline and management; examine and discuss alternative theories and approaches to discipline, with particular emphasis on the decisive discipline approach.

Synopsis The subject consists of two complementary strands. Strand `A' (off-campus program) involves approximately fifteen days practical teaching, covering a wide range of teaching and class management responsibilities in junior grades. Strand `A' (on-campus program) examines several key teaching methods and strategies including introducing and closing lessons, explaining, questioning, reinforcement and post-lesson evaluation. The aim of strand `B' is to enable students to examine issues relating to classroom discipline and the impact of pupil behaviour on classroom organisation and pupil achievement.

* Examination (strand `A', on-campus): 26%
* Examination (strand `B', on-campus): 26%
