Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate a detailed awareness and knowledge of the major issues currently impacting on human resource management in Australian organisations; identify strategies by which managers can maximise organisational effectiveness.

Synopsis A range of major issues impacting on human resource management organisations in the 1990s and beyond including demographic and social changes, ethics in HRM, assessment centre techniques, the impact of Government legislation on HRM, the contribution of HRM to improving productivity, managing outplacement, outsourcing, career development and mentoring.

Assessment Oral presentation: 30%
* Issues paper (2500 words): 30%
* Examination (2 hours): 40%
