Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to comprehend current theory on performance management, performance appraisal, training and development, and compensation systems; explain the inter-relationships between these functions in organisations; develop and implement a skills training workshop, incorporating the above concepts.

Synopsis Explores the interface between performance appraisal systems, training and development practices and the implementation of reward systems. Topics covered include setting and measuring performance standards, performance assessment, training needs analysis, evaluating training and development, management development, performance-based compensation.

Assessment Class presentation: 15%
* Group project: 20%
* Assignment (2000 words): 25%
* Examination: (2 hours): 40%
