Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the importance and role of manufacturing in Australia; be able to outline and explain the importance of the `five P's' of operations management; and be able to summarise modern developments in manufacturing.
Synopsis An outline of manufacturing in Australia; the `five P's' of manufacturing management and modern developments in operations management. Topics receiving particular attention are the five basic manufacturing technologies, plant layout and location, personnel management and safety, quality and reliability, product costing and variation, production scheduling, basic forecasting and inventory management.
Assessment One individual assignment (1500 words): 30%
* Group assignment (3000 words): 20%
* Examination (3 hours): 50%
