Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to understand and describe the basic parameters in planning, organising, and controlling the quality conversion operations; develop a working vocabulary of the concepts, methods of analysis, and problems commonly encountered with the product and process quality of organisations; critically assess the current philosophies and present a model that integrates all aspects of quality within an organisation; discuss the limitations and merits of behaviour modifications as they relate to quality; recommend a framework for easily identifying the benefits of quality and relate it to the Australian environment; and provide an overview for establishing a quality strategy and managing its implementation and evaluation.
Synopsis This subject provides the student with a comprehensive guide to what the quality challenge is and how to approach it. It brings empirical case study evidence and theoretical analysis together in a review of the design, implementation and evaluation of the ongoing unique nature of quality. Major topics include quality management philosophies and their application in both manufacturing and service industries; management issues in quality; and managerial responsibilities in managing for quality.
