Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to understand the different perspectives on strategic management theory; identify and understand the assumptions underlying the different models of strategic management; comprehend the origins of techniques of strategic analysis; critically evaluate strategic management research; participate in debates on strategic management theories; and communicate the results of critiques both in writing and orally.
Synopsis This subject provides a foundation and support for an understanding of the complexity of strategic management. It focuses on the development of strategic management theory and its links with practice and empirical management research. The topics include the history of strategic management thought; perspectives on strategic management; models of strategic management; strategists and entrepreneurs; and ethical and social issues in strategy.
Assessment Individual assignment: 30%
