Objectives The objective of this subject is to introduce students to concepts in accounting and finance. Areas taught include the objectives of financial management and their importance to an organisation. Students will be required to produce typical financial and management reports and then analyse these statements for decision making purposes. Students will also gain an understanding of the finance options available to business and of the techniques used to manage costs.

Synopsis This subject covers the goals and functions of financial policy, accounting reports, investment decisions, sources of finance, cost behaviour, budgeting techniques, dividend policy and small enterprise finance.

Assessment Assignment one (essay 2000 words): 15%
* Assignment two (reports 2500 words): 15%
* Examination (3 hours): 70%
