Introductory accounting and financial information systems II

* Prerequisites: AFF9500, AFF9510

Objectives On completion of this subject students should have developed an understanding of information technology and its use in a business environment; the concepts behind a comprehensive accounting package; the role of databases in business computing; the internal control issues relating to computers; the specification and selection issues for major computer systems; the impact of information technology on business processes; the preparation, uses, characteristics and limitations of financial models; effective spreadsheet design principles; advanced logic within financial models; the principles of structured programming in spreadsheet macro languages; designing, testing; debugging; coding and documenting macro programs.

Synopsis Lectures on the topics listed above and practical exercises using Microsoft Excel or Lotus 1-2-3 to develop financial models and using MYOB accounting software.

Assessment Assignment 1 (1000- 2000 words or computer based): 15%
* Assignment 2 (1000- 2000 words or computer based): 15%
* Examination (3 hours): 70%
