Objectives On completion of this subject students can expect to be acquainted with organisational theory and be able to apply it to aspects of organisations; aware of the consequences of organisational activities for consumers and human service workers; able to identify issues in relation to human service organisations and utilise strategies to address such issues.
Synopsis The subject involves the study of the following topics: the nature of human service organisations; theoretical approaches including the rational, systems, action, conflict, population ecology and feminist approaches; organisational goals, structure, processes, culture, environments and change; volunteers; management and administration; efficiency and effectiveness.
Assessment One written essay (3000 words): 45%

written tutorial paper (2000 words) and presentation: 35%

review of an article (1000 words): 20%.
