Objectives On the successful completion of this subject students should have further developed basic understanding of the nature of learning a foreign language and of how the Vietnamese language operates. They should, and at the same time, be able to apply that knowledge to communication in a limited range of social situations.

Synopsis This subject builds on the previous subject, VTN1110. It deals with the question of tense, usage of conjunctions and more complex particles. The context of language use covers comparisons, directions, distances and modes of transport, the human body and basic health terms. Attention is given to the social and cultural context of language use.

Assessment Written: 20%
* Examinations (2 hours): 50%
* Oral test and class work: 30%
