Objectives On successful completion of this subject students will have become aware of a portion of the existing international scholarly literature from various disciplines relating to Thailand, and be able to describe the identifying characteristics of Thai civilisation within a Southeast Asian context.

Synopsis An introduction to the civilisation of Thailand touching on a range of topics, including identity and ethnicity, society, hierarchy, religion, history, the arts and popular beliefs and practcies.

Assessment Four written assignments (1500 words) to be presented on dates to be agreed, based on reading lists.
