Objectives At the completion of this subject students should know the processes of information systems analysis and design; understand how to apply systems analysis and design techniques and project management techniques in information systems development; be able to identify the opportunities and potential problems in the application of information systems to solve business problems; and appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of systems development techniques and of information systems as solutions to business problems.

Synopsis This subject covers the development of computerised information systems. The broad systems development lifecycle of requirements determination, evaluation of alternative system solutions, design of chosen system and implementation will be used as a framework for the subject. Students will become familiar with the activities and deliverable products of each stage of this lifecycle and will be acquainted with the tools and techniques used. In particular, systems modelling techniques will be explored and some skills developed in using these. Current issues in systems development, such as CASE tools and business process reengineering, will be examined.
