Objectives On completing the subject students should be familiar with the patterns of Russian word-formation and with the structure of the Russian vocabulary. They should be able to segment words and identify any alternations involved in their generation.

Synopsis The subject introduces students to the systematic investigation of the Russian vocabulary with some contrastive study of the vocabulary of other Slavic languages. It covers such topics as orthography, word-formation and the structure of inflected words, as well as etymology and patterns of lexical development.

Assessment Written: 50%
