Objectives On completing this subject and RUS1080 students should: have acquired a thorough knowledge of Russian grammar; be able to speak, read, write and understand the standard language at a level of non-technical, everyday communication; be able to translate non-specialist texts from and into Russian without recourse to a dictionary; have gained a basic knowledge of selected literary texts; acquired an understanding of the political, cultural and historical background of Russian.
Synopsis The subject consists of two parts: (1) advanced grammar, composition, conversation and textual work (three hours per week); (2) an introduction to Russian (and other Slavic) culture (one hour per week).
Assessment Written (1500 words): 20%

(2 hours): 60%
* Oral work: 20%
