Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have an understanding of citizenship in theory and practice, especially in the Australian state as it enters a regional/globalising polity.

Synopsis This subject introduces the debate about citizenship as Australia enters a globalising world. What new problems are posed by this world context? Are existing theories and practices of citizenship adequate to meet a world where a nation-state is less important than it has been? What new multicultural and transnational approaches are proposed?
