Objectives At the completion of this subject, students should have an effective working knowledge of the most common applications of technology to music composition and have gained a specialist knowledge of at least one of the areas covered in the subject.

Synopsis Honours students of composition are required to prepare, under the guidance of a supervisor, a folio of three substantial original compositions for varied musical forces and to organise and present a concert performance of at least one work. The aim is to extend students' knowledge of the musical applications of computers, studio technology, and concepts underlying contemporary techniques of the capture and modification of audio signals and musical representations, such as score notation. Practical demonstrations and exercises reinforce these concepts. A choice of major project allows the student to explore an area of major interest.

Assessment Composition: 60%
* Concert performance: 10%
* Major project: 30%
