* Prerequisites: MUS2110 and MUS2120 and consultation with department to ascertain eligibility to enrol in this subject for 4 points.

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject students should have gained a foundation for curriculum development in music education; discussed the pedagogy of the solo instrument versus the pedagogy of the classroom; and participated in seminars dealing with comparative music education.

Synopsis The history, philosophy, psychology and critical study of various methodologies (eg Orff and Kodaly) used at all levels of music education. Topics include testing and measurement, administration and supervision, course and curricula development, and modes and transmission of learning across the cultures, with particular focus on the Australian scene.

Assessment Written (2000 words): 50%
* Assignments and seminar participation: 50%

Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject students should have gained a foundation for curriculum development in music education; discussed the pedagogy of the solo instrument versus the pedagogy of the classroom; and participated in seminars dealing with comparative music education. Additionally, students will have examined the contextual issues of music education in a multicultural society.

Synopsis The history, philosophy, psychology and critical study of various methodologies (eg Orff and Kodaly) used at all levels of music education. Topics include testing and measurement, administration and supervision, course and curricula development, and modes and transmission of learning across the cultures, with particular focus on the Australian scene.
