Crisis and risk communication

Objectives Students who successfully complete this subject will be able to use formal and informal research methods to assess the potential public relations problems and opportunities created by corporate activities and public issues; to develop proactive public relations strategies to win or maintain staff, community and/or media support for corporate activities or positions on issues; and to develop responsive public relations strategies to deal with crisis situations caused by internal and external events.

Synopsis This theoretical subject offers students insights into the dynamics of issues management, risk communication and crisis management in internal and external environments. It familiarises students with research tools and methods to assess stakeholder views and values, both for strategic planning and campaign evaluation purposes. It explores how communication technologies can support or impede communication management.

Assessment Learning journal: 10%
* Issues presentation (2000 words): 20%

* Tutorial presentation (1000 words): 10%
* Examination (3 hours): 40%
