Modern Greek language: katharevousa

Objectives Students are expected to demonstrate a knowledge of the morphology and vocabulary of katharevousa; the ability to understand texts in katharevousa and translate them into standard demotic Greek; the ability to use correctly those elements of katharevousa which are current in the Greek of today.

Synopsis The subject is designed to give students a reading knowledge of katharevousa, and is taught mainly through practical language work.

Assessment Examination (1.5 hours): 50%
* Language assignments and exercises, oral test: 50%
