Introduction to Korean, part 1

Objectives A principal objective of this subject is to have students acquire minimum survival proficiency in Korean. They should develop the ability in speaking and listening to comprehend enough to meet basic survival needs, such as asking for and giving personal information, asking and talking about likes and dislikes, ordering or buying things, and making simple suggestions and agreeing. In reading, they should be able to read simple sentences without difficulty. In writing, they should attain a familiarity with the Korean alphabet and the ability to write personal details and a short series of sentences about things that are familiar.

Synopsis An introduction to the contemporary Korean language, with special emphasis on spoken language. Students will also be introduced to written Korean and the Korean alphabet.

Assessment Examinations (4 hours): 40%
* Continuous assessment (oral and written class work, home work, tests): 60%
