Objectives As for JPS2110 with the additional objective that students should gain experience in generating an original research topic for the essay which demonstrates their awareness of the key issues in contemporary Japanese society.

Synopsis As for JPS2110.

Assessment Essay (3000 words): 60%
* Examination (1 hour): 10%
* Tutorial presentation: 30%
* For the essay, third-year students will be expected to generate their own topic and find a substantial body of source material outside the course references.
