* Any semester
* At an approved Japanese institution
* Prerequisite: on approval of the head of department

Objectives This subject gives students the opportunity to undertake a course of study at a Japanese university with which Monash has a formal exchange agreement. By attending lectures and fulfilling assessment requirements in the Japanese language in a subject related to Japan, the student will improve his or her Japanese language ability and knowledge of Japan in an academic context. If attending lectures in English in a subject on Japan, the student will reinforce the scholastic input by being in a Japanese environment. It is envisaged that students should also benefit in various intangible ways from the study abroad experience.

Synopsis An approved semester-length, or year-length program of study at a Japanese institution. Students will take one or more subjects in Japanese studies at the Japanese institution which are equivalent in content to work done in the department of Japanese studies as approved by the head of department. The number of points will be awarded on the basis of the number of contact hours, the amount of assessment, and the level of the subjects.

Assessment Students will be required to submit written work to the subject coordinator, to a supervisor in Japan who has been duly appointed by the department to function in that capacity, or to a combination of both, as determined by the department: 100%
