Reading Japanese texts B

Objectives As for JPL3750.

Synopsis This course aims to provide students with the opportunity to practice and to develop their skills in reading Japanese, and will particularly emphasise the use of kanji that they have already learnt as well as the ability to read a wide range of new kanji. Although there is a set textbook, a wide range of other texts, including newspaper articles, essays, fiction, non-fiction, and comics, may also be utilised. Particular emphasis will be placed on the capacity for independent reading, including the development of dictionary skills. Texts B will further develop reading skills acquired from the first semester course.

Assessment Mid-semester examination (1.5 hours): 30%
* End-of-semester examination (1.5 hours): 40%
* Weekly exercises: 30%
