* All intending honours students are expected to take this subject. The subject is designed for them, but other interested students are welcome to take it.

Objectives Students completing this subject should have gained a familiarity with a range of contemporary critical and theoretical writings. They should have developed an ability to read theoretical prose in Italian attentively, with a view to analysing different methodological possibilities, conceptual formations, and techniques of argument construction.

Synopsis Study of the analytic tools required for an effective interpretation of literary and other texts. Text production, textual strategies and text reception will be the main areas covered.

Assessment Two short seminar presentations (1000 words each): 40%
* One literary/textual analysis (2000 words): 60%
