Objectives Students successfully completing this unit should be capable of reading and analysing examples of modern Javanese prose and poetry. They should also be able to read simple texts in Javanese script, with an appreciation of the place of this script in Java's cultural heritage.
Synopsis This subject aims to build on the knowledge gained in Beginning Javanese. Examples of post-war poetry are analused from a literary viewpoint with the aim of identifying social issues underlying them. Finally Javanese script is introduced.
