Indonesian for special purposes (seni drama)

Objectives On successful completion of this subject students should be able to define between dramatic registers and other written registers of fiction; demonstrate an understanding of the manner in which plays are constructed; develop a character for a play or scene within a play; perform in a non-professional production; interpret for a visiting artist; translate at para-professional level a scene from a play.

Synopsis This subject is presented in a series of workshops conducted in Indonesian and based on both traditional and modern Indonesian theatre. Aspects of language are highlighted through the reading, translating and performance of works written primarily by Indonesian playwrights, though reference will also be made to Australian playwrights.

Assessment Performance: 30%
* Production report (2000 words): 40%
* Short essay (1000 words): 20%
* Participation: 10%
