Objectives On successful completion of this subject, students should have developed a further understanding of the Indonesian language, have a command of an expanded vocabulary, new and more complex syntax and new oral conventions. They should be able to put into practice that newly acquired knowledge to communicate in more daily life situations. They should also have gained an understanding of the Indonesian/Malay language, with particular reference to its relationship with neighbouring languages, its historical development and its achievement of the status of national language of Indonesia.
Synopsis Literary prose and poetry are read and analysed. The second lecture is devoted to a discussion of the development of modern Indonesian literature in its social context.
