Objectives As for HSY2420 with the additional objective that students should gain a greater and more critical understanding of `popular culture' as a tool for analysing past societies, of the relationships between local and global culture and of the range of experiences and practices which constitute Australian culture.

Synopsis As for HSY2420.

Assessment Research essay (3000 words): 35%
* Two seminar papers (1000 words each): 30%
* Examination (1 hour): 25%
* Seminar participation: 10%
* Third-year students will be expected to demonstrate more sophisticated analytical skills and submit work incorporating a higher level of competence in independent reading and research.
