Objectives As for HSY2230 with the additional objective that students gain a more sophisticated grasp of the role of minority cultures and social divisions in the making of the United States and develop a higher degree of skill in the use of documentary sources in their research essays.

Synopsis As for HSY2230.

Assessment Historiographical essay (1500 words): 20%
* Research essay (2500 words): 30%
* Examination (2 hours): 40%
* Tutorial participation: 10%
* Third-year students will be expected to demonstrate more sophisticated analytical skills and submit work incorporating a higher level of competence in independent reading and research.
