Objectives Students successful completing this subject will recognise the importance of social organisation in the survival of family groups and will have broadened their knowledge of traditional Koorie life with particular focus on the social, economic and political structure.
Synopsis The subject commences with concept attainment for culture, society and social structure, and then progresses to a discussion of the methodology of cross-cultural comparison. The economic organisation and the system of traditional law within Koorie tribes are both examined. The Ganai/Kurnai of Gippsland are used where possible to illustrate of the points covered.
