Objectives This subject builds upon the skills and knowledge gained in GRN3315. Objectives of part 1 as for GRN3315. Part 2 German linguistics: Upon successful completion of this part of the course students should have a working knowledge of phonology and morphology and their application to Modern Standard German. Students should also have learned the basics of the history of the German language and of its genetic relationship with other languages of Europe and Asia.
Synopsis Part 1: Spoken and written German at an advanced level in the beginners stream. Emphasis on the rapid extension of vocabulary and expansion of communicative competence in speech and writing. Part 2: Introduction to German linguistics. Introduction to the theory of language as applied to German.
Assessment Written (1200 words): 30%

(3 hours): 70%
