Chinese business communication, part 1

* Prerequisites: A credit in CHI3320 or equivalent

Objectives Students must complete both parts one and two (CHI4469) in order to develop the ability to write formal correspondence using appropriate business vocabulary; a knowledge of mainland Chinese business practices; the oral/aural ability for formal and informal modes of communication across a range of social and business contexts.

Synopsis This subject develops practical writing and oral skills used in Chinese business and commerce in contemporary China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Students enrolled in stream F (Chinese for dialect speakers) cannot take this subject as an elective.

Assessment Examinations (2 hours): 30%
* Oral examinations: 30%
* Two written tests: 30%
* Seminar participation: 10%
